J Davidson Scrap

This busy scrapyard had 3 existing analogue CCTV systems and one small IP CCTV system that we’d installed over the years since the premises were developed by Davidsons.

Replacements were needed for a number of cameras as they reached end of life, so we designed a new IP based system using Dahua equipment throughout to allow all of the existing cameras to be brought into one Network Video Recorder (NVR), making the system easy to control locally and remotely.

Cameras were carefully specified depending on the areas covered, which vary from individual scale displays to highly active processing areas, as well as internally to provide cover in the offices and workshops.

The system is viewed locally on 7 separate screens, with each connected to its own viewing platform for simple and reliable control of the individual monitors. These viewing platforms also allow us to connect to a further two remote sites to local screens, allowing staff at the head office to monitor their remote sites easily and conveniently.

The system is also used to monitor processes in this busy and fast-moving yard, recording areas where incidents could occur, and helping towards maintaining the health and safety of staff on site.

An ANPR camera captures the registration plates of every vehicle entering the yard, allowing complete traceability of all scrap disposed of.

With a connection to our monitoring partners, and utilising a combination of traditional motion detectors from GJD, and Dahua’s industry leading AI detection, the site is protected out of hours with immediate and accurate detection of intruders.

A TOA public address system provides audio feedback to the site, allowing operators to hail anyone on site out of hours, quickly deterring anyone unauthorised.

If suspicious activity requiring a further and more robust response is needed, rapid response teams and the police can be deployed, and carefully guided to the location of intruders, as well as off-site recordings kept for evidence.
